Brianna Newton is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Working across ceramics, painting, and sculpture, Newton explores her fascination with aquatic life, creating work that captures the majesty and whimsy of fish.

 

Born and raised in the Kansas City metropolitan area, she draws inspiration from books, documentaries, and visits to local aquariums. Her practice is rooted not only in observation, but also in a commitment to learning about diverse fish species and their environments. Through her work, she aims to educate viewers about the richness and variety of aquatic life, highlighting species that are often overlooked or misunderstood.

 

Newton’s work is driven by a desire to spark curiosity and care, encouraging audiences to become more invested in the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. By fostering a sense of connection between viewer and subject, she hopes to inspire greater awareness and appreciation of the fragile environments her work celebrates.
