Big Fish Eat Little Fish

Project type

Ceramic

Date

2025

This is a recreation of Big fish eat Little Fish by Pieter Van der Heyden from 1557. I wanted to dissect the fish as a representation of capitalism and product consumption.
I feel that as an artist I am expected to produce endless amounts of products in the pursuit of financial and social gain. However, with this piece I want to highlight the ceramic process from raw clay to bisque to glazed and how the creative process can also be a liberating action as the finished colorful fish escape the bawls of the embodiment of capitalism's gluttony.
